2015 Division 1: Game 3 Result – SDCC2 lost to Corinthians by 13 runs

Match Report: SDCC2 vs Corinthian:

Author: Vishal Upadhyay

The first away game did not begin the way SDCC2 had planned. Although we won the toss and elected to bowl under cloudy conditions, SDCC2 could not bowl to a plan due to wicket being slow and short of length balls were hit for easy boundaries. Good thing was SDCC2 always kept a check on Corinthians RR and never allowed them to go over 4.5 runs an over. Pratik was easily the best of the bowlers bowling 9 on a trot and picking 3 wickets and giving away 24 runs. Other bowlers bowled well in patches giving away loose deliveries here and there on their spells. Consistency was definitely missing by them. Fielding was good but still we have lots of areas where we can get better. These were couple of areas that we will have to work on. Adapting to the wickets quickly and bowling to a plan.

Corinthians ended up with 200 on the board and Vishal in the break mentioned to the team that we did well restricting them but they scored 25/30 runs more than his liking.

SDCC2 started off shakily with score reading 36-3 in 14 overs. Top order did not display enough patience to stick around and played their shots too soon in their innings. Sharvesh was unlucky and was out due to brilliant keeping by their keeper Randeep. Akshay was also out to a brilliant catch at gully where fielder took a one handed blinder low on his right. We showed true fighting spirit when Akash (62) and Jatin (33) grinded it out in the middle with a solid 92 runs partnership. Both played very good innings. We also lost wickets in pairs every time when it looked like a partnership was developing. SDCC2 ended up with 187 in 43.2 overs – 14 short of the required target.

It was a good game of cricket overall, but this was a game that SDCC2 beat themselves. Corinthians played well and defended a total of 200 on Woodley.

We made too many mistakes on the field and also some batsmen did not apply themselves while batting. We will bounce back in our next game and display some better cricket on the field.

Players of the game for SDCC2: Pratik Desai (9-1-24-3 and 2 catches; Akash Jagannathan 62 runs and 2 catches)
