San Diego 2 faced Caribbean at CSP on another beautiful day in San Diego. It was the 4th home game of the season for San Diego, who were looking to maintain their perfect record at home. Caribbean entered the game having lost only once in their 3 games. The away team had 11 players available unlike some of the previous games at CSP, with most of their big names showing up.The toss was won by Caribbean and surprisingly they elected to bat. Vishal and Gaurav started things off with the new ball. After a tight start, the first wicket came in the 5th over with Vishal getting the wicket of Caribbean skipper Clayon. Roy was joined in the middle by Asela and the pair accelerated the score to 50+ runs in the first 8 overs. Asela was at his fluent best and scored boundaries at will. With the team in a spot of bother, Vishal again produced a double breakthrough with Roy getting out to a well-judged catch by Jatin at long on. Asela also departed in the same over hitting one straight to Akash t mid wicket. Caribbean’s middle order looked to consolidate with little success thanks to some good bowling and excellent fielding. Hrishi took two excellent one hand catches, one on the field and the other behind the wicket. With wickets falling at regular intervals and no batsmen scoring more than 28, Caribbean eventually folded for a score of 156. Vishal was the top wicket taker with 4, followed by Pratik (3). Raju and Jatin were unlucky not to have gotten more than the 1 wicket each that they ended up with.

157 seemed a gettable target on a good wicket and the team was in confident mood at the break. Akash and Sridhar got rid of any early jitters with a flurry of boundaries. They were aided by some poor bowling from Caribbean who bowled a lot of extras with the new ball. Having given an excellent start, Akash fell for a well-made 22. This was the highest opening partnership of the season. Sridhar and Akshay produced another 50 plus run partnership and the team never looked in trouble. There was a minor collapse at the end with 3 wickets falling in quick succession. Sridhar unfortunately got out for 49 and Akshay for another score in the 30s. Gaurav and Jogi scored the remaining few runs to give us the victory with 13 overs to spare.

Clinical performance and a convincing victory against a very good team give us 5 wins out of 6 games. The team’s next game will be against Hollywood at Woodley on the 21st of June.

Man of the Match – Vishal Upadhyay for his brilliant bowling spell (4/44) that took 4 of the 5 top order Caribbean batsmen.
