2015 Division 1: Game 7 Result – SDCC2 beat Hollywood 1 by 26 runs

June 22, 2015

To begin the day, SDCC2 discipline was on the money when all the 12 players were at the ground by 9:10 am. We got enough time to settle down, do our chores as a team and relax for a bit. Kudos to the entire team for that! Keep it up!

A special shout out to Rajsekhar to show up as 12th man for an AWAY game. On behalf of the whole team, I would like to appreciate your efforts towards the team.

One more special mention to Hollywood-1 team – It was very heartening to see some of the young players play for Hollywood-1. One of them was 11 years old and one was 14 years who actually broke SDCC2’s back by getting 4 wickets. Sahil Patel (15 years) bowled beautifully grabbing 2 wickets.

On a warm sunny day, San Diego won the toss and elected to bat against a depleted Hollywood team who were missing some of their key players. The message to the team was clear that we need to bat out the 45 overs to ensure Hollywood-1 team gets tired of standing on the field. SDCC2 batsmen started off cautiously primarily due to immaculate bowling by Hollywood opening bowlers. SDCC2 kept losing wickets at regular interval with our top order not converting their small starts. SDCC2 were 102/7 after 33 overs, till Jogi and Jatin built a suberb partnership of 84 runs for the 8th wicket in 8 overs. Both of them rotated the strike effortlessly and consistently put the bad balls to the boundary. Jogi scored his 50 off 37 balls. Once he got out, Jatin immediately perished to an excellent shot but straight to the fielder for a well-made 39 runs off 42 balls. Vishal and Pradeep ensured that the momentum continued till the end with a 42 runs unbeaten partnership for the last wicket in 3.3 overs. Pradeep was unbeaten with 24 off 13 balls and Vishal unbeaten on 22 runs off 13 balls. SDCC2 finished with a total of 223/9 at the end of 45 overs with 120+ runs scored in last 12 overs.

The Hollywood openers started aggressively till Wayne intervened with a timely wicket. Hollywood was looking set for another partnership when Vishal got the second opener caught by Jatin. Top 8 of Hollywood batsman got their starts but SDCC2 bowlers ensured they took the wickets at regular intervals. Vishal kept rotating the bowlers so that the heat does not get to the them. SDCC2’s ground fielding was good but SDCC2 dropped some key catches which luckily did not cost them the game.

Good Luck to Hollywood for the rest of the season.

Man of the Match – Joginder Sehgal for his counter attacking batting display of 51 runs (39b, 3X4, 1X6) and brilliant bowling spell (7-1-24-2)

Go SDCC!
