On a warm humid day, SDCC2 won the toss and they elected to field.

Arjunan and Abhimanyu opened the innings for Cosmos ready to face the swing of Vishal and pace of CP. First couple of overs, Cosmos were 13/0 before Vishal struck for SDCC2. The ball swung in and went under the bat of Abhimanyu who was charging down the wicket to get clean bowled. Gurpreet joined Arjunan and they began to build a small little partnership. Vishal missed a run out chance of Gurpreet when he could not collect the ball properly. A missed chance for SDCC2. After the first 8 overs, Cosmos were 32/1. Vishal made a double change bring Raju and Jatin. Both bowled beautifully not giving any runs away. Arjunan trying to break the shackles went after Jatin to be caught by Gaurav at backward point. Ali Mukadam also got out caught behind to a beauty from Jatin which kicked up from short of length. Cosmos score reading 46/3 in 16 overs at first break. Shafi and Gurpreet began consolidating the innings again and they reached 80 in the 27th over when Raju got Gurpreet to edge to Vishal at second slip. Cosmos score read 90/4 in 30 overs with clearly SDCC2 on top. Amin joined Shafi in the middle. Being both left handers, Vishal brought himself back into the attack, but they played very sensibly not to lose a wicket at that moment. After the Batting PP, Cosmos were 125/4 in 35 overs. Cosmos changed the batting gears and started belting SDCC2 bowlers all over the park. Ali and Amin batted superbly. SDCC2 bowled well but could not contain them. None of the bowling changes were working for SDCC2. In the 44th over, finally Jogi got the breakthrough when Ali tried to clear long off but was caught nicely by Deepak. Gaurav bowled the final over for SDCC2 claiming Amin caught brilliantly by CP at Long off. Cosmos ended up with a formidable total of 213/7 in 45 overs.

For Cosmos, Ali and Amin were brilliant in their batting approach and it is something that we can learn and keep working on for our growth in the game.

Few things that came out was after the bowling effort was that we gave lot of extras which is something bowlers can improve on in the future games. Fielding and Catching on the field was exceptional.

SDCC2 began their chase with Deepak and Sridhar opening. Deepak got out in the 3rd over trying to force a shot caught at 2nd slip. Score reading 11/1 in 3. In-form Askhay joined Sridhar and as soon as partnership was developing, Akshay got a peach of a ball and was clean bowled. Score reading 28/2 in the 7th over. Gaurav and Sridhar then began consolidating with Sri taking the senior role giving time to Gaurav to settle. Sri was unfortunate that a ball kicked off the length and he edged it. Sri batted very positive for his 34. Score reading 58/3 in 14 overs Sharvesh joined Gaurav and they began to work the balls in the gaps and rotating the strike. Unfortunately, both of them got out lbw’s in gap of 3 runs. From 93/3, SDCC2 were 96/5 in 27 overs. Jatin and Hrishi, both new at the crease started one of the key partnerships of this game. They scored 46 runs in approximately 9 overs and that is what SDCC2 exactly needed. Again the ball kicked up and Jatin edged to the keeper for a well-made 23. Jogi joined the well set Hrishi and now the time was to support Hrishi as he was middling every ball and looking compact and solid. Jogi scored 12 off 6 before he got out. Unfortunately for the team, Jogi’s bat got stuck while playing the shot and ball lobbed at extra cover. Score reading 165/7 in 37.5 overs. Vishal joined Hrishi when the equation was 49 runs needed in 43 balls. A very poor and an irresponsible shot by Vishal meant SDCC2 was in deep trouble. 170/8 in 38.4 overs. SDCC2 needing 44 runs in 38 balls. Hrishi was well set and CP was looking good as well, when Hrishi decided to get himself run out. The way he was batting, we believed that was the only way Hrishi was going to be out in the game. He scored a brilliant 45 off 41 balls. Bad news was SDCC2 were 183/9 in 40.2 overs. SDCC2 still needed 31 off 28 balls. Raju and CP – the BOLTS duo – started in a typical fashion which meant running hard between the wickets and keep rotating the strike. CP was brilliant in his approach when he took calculated risks by dancing down the ground to the spinner to hit 2 sixers. On both occasions, ball was not be found. Raju batted brilliantly by rotating strikes to CP.

Equation came down to 14 off 12 balls with Raju P on strike.

2 runs – We WON by 1 wicket!!

Unbeaten 31 runs partnership by CP and Raju P was simply superb (although we all were very nervous and stuck to our places watching them and cheering every run they ran and every 6 CP hit).

Man of the Match – Hrishikesh Unni for his brilliant batting display (45 off 41) and Pradeep Chellu for delivering the win for the team under pressure (21* off 16). Both also took a catch each.

This win was only possible by us as we all showed a great team effort!!! We were down, but not out of the game at several phases of the game, but the entire team displayed a strong character and the will power to earn this win and we DID it.

Go SDCC!
